A fund-raising event (aRtY PaRty) was organized by CoA in celebration the new year at the galleriiizu, KL on the 31st December 2005 in support to nurture young art enthusiasts. More than 250 people came to the party which was joined by 7 experimental bands; Akta Angkasa, Artik, Deepset Joy, Designer's Electro, Flow, Telephony Delivery, and Sfera Logika. Before the band performance, everyone was entertained with aboriginal music by the Street Horn Syndicate (SHS). Among those who participated in the event was local theather performer; Farrah Aini Lugiman with her monologue, poetry sessions by The Midnight Poets, Soulshyne, Unkleventrikel, and Puvin accompanied by Tom on guitar.

The event also attracted the attention of the famous Kopratasa who dropped by the gallery before their performance at the KLCC Park. :)

aRtY PaRty was featured in the iKON (Berita Harian) newspaper, dated 7th January 2006.

Dear Art Lover,

I am truly honoured to be able to share and exhibit Mohd Noor’s work at galleriiizu. His ability to see a final composition in his mind is simply amazing. There is totally no room for error and his skill is a result from his extensive research through the years. The craftsmanship in each piece is superb. What goes behind each artwork is an extremely high level of crafting skill, drawing skill, painting skill and not to mention, the patience, dedication and passion behind it all.

I am sure that everyone is able to see and relate to Mohd Noor’s depiction of Kota Bharu as the series documenting the real soul of Kelantan. I say this because, as a fellow Kelantanese, it brought me back to my childhood. Some of the designs were similar to the quilt patchwork that was done by my late grandmother! The art even reminded my childhood surroundings and some of familiar smells. It definitely evoked various emotions on multiple levels. Hence, I am sure that whoever whom experienced and live life in Kota Bharu can also feel the spirit of ‘Colours of Kota Bharu’ as we all grew up with the elements and relics that are documented in the series.

To me, this is a work from a true master. One who is able to piece together a contemporary work of art that is grounded in traditional values. And to do it in a unique collage of fused medium that manages to bring nostalgia and insights into the yesteryears of Kota Bharu. The series also showcase Mohd Noor’s great sense of colour and palette. Take a closer look and you will see how the pieces have been built painstakingly… layer by layer. Take a deeper imagination and you’ll
smell and hear the sounds of Kota Bharu. The ‘Colours of Kota Bharu’ series is an awe-inspiring example of what makes a great artist.

galleriiizu cordially invites you to a special preview of ‘Colours of Kota Bharu’ by Mohd Noor Mahmud. He is the first master to be featured after the launch of the 7 series exhibition.
About KALAKOTABHARU or ‘Colours of Kota Bharu’ The ‘Colours of Kota Bharu’ series is the result from 10 years of researching, experimenting and documenting the essence of Kota Bharu in a truly fascinating and magnificent medium. The series captures and reflects the artist’s interpretation of Kota Bharu’s community, colours, shapes, culture, craft, forms, religion and beliefs.

The series is inspired from cave drawings and ancient art artifacts. Mohd Noor has perfected the art of fusing mixed medium with his unique art technique. Each and every piece of work is a showcase of well-planned composition that revisits the various elements of Kota Bharu. It took Mohd Noor 3½ years to complete 8 big pieces and another 2 years to complete the smaller pieces.

You are invited to a special preview of these masterpieces from now till 6th January 2006. The exhibition opens to the public for three weeks, beginning 7 Jan -27 Jan 2006.

galleriiizu is open from 11am to 7pm, 7 days a week during this exhibition. Drop by to witness and truly appreciate the ‘Colours of Kota Bharu’ series. If you prefer an appointment, please call Izu at 016-380 5 999 or Suzanne at 016-901 5 901.

galleriiizu wishes you a belated Merry X’mas and a fantastic new year!

Warmest wishes,
Izu & Everyone at galleriiizu

(THE BIG 7 - On the 7th of every month, galleriiizu will feature a special exhibit in one of the 7 sections in the gallery. These monthly exhibitions are actually a countdown to The Big 7 that will take place on 7 July 2006.)

Mezzanine Floor (Above EON Bank) UOA Centre, Jalan Pinang. 50450 Kuala

IN PRINT
CONTEMPORARY BRITISH ART FORM THE PARAGON PRESS

Happy New Year 2006 everyone!
We know it has been a while since we last posted updates here. CoA has been so busy with events and activities that we didn't have much time to update here. Sad news on CoA's website, the server (which we shared with a friend) is now closed. So if you're wondering what happened to the site, that's the reason why you couldn't get into the site. :( We will try to buy new hosting this year (hopefully soon!) since we have a lot to share with you guys.

2005 has been a great learning experience to everyone in CoA. We've been up and down the scene. We've learnt that it's not easy to manage and make everyone behave well enough in a group which consists of so many people with different attitudes and background. Some felt that they have nothing to contribute and left the group, but those who stayed prefer not to stop right there. We know that we still have a long way to go before we could really be proud with what we have done and contributed to the art scene and the society. So far, it has been good. :)

At the moment, we're planning and working on new events and few collaborations with established art groups and organizations. So, to those who has been waiting to participate with our activities, please bare with us and we will try not to let you down.

Happy New Year from everyone in CoA...
